Biometric Integration
Biometric products allow a high security option to be bolted on to most access control systems and time and attendance solutions.

Biometric characteristics can be divided in two main classes, as represented in figure on the right:
physiological are related to the shape of the body. The oldest traits, that have been used for more than 100 years, are fingerprints. Other examples are face recognition, hand geometry and iris recognition.
behavioral are related to the behavior of a person. The first characteristic to be used, still widely used today, is the signature. More modern approaches are the study of keystroke dynamics and of voice.

A long on-going security risk has always been present with the use of cards or pin numbers.

If administrators allow lost or stolen cards to remain on a system there is a genuine risk of a rogue individual entering the building.
Most individuals who use a pin number usually use a common set of digits such as date of birth or phone number combinations.  If it is more complicated a piece of note pad or an entry in a phone list can usually be found to be present.
Biometric solutions remove all these problems and also reduce the ongoing cost of replacing lost, damaged, or stolen cards, holders and lanyards.
